 Compositions

Maestro Angel M. Peña has written so many compositions and arrangements in a wide range of genres.  Renowned neo-classical composer Dr. Byron Yasui describes Peña as "a gentleman's gentleman, pure class and down to earth;" "I am in awe of Peña's knowledge of intricate and highly technical details in music theory, orchestration, composition, music arranging, counterpoint, ear training, and sight singing, all the more because he is self-taught."  From the classical idiom (be it chamber or full orchestra) to  jazz (be it quartet or big band), there's that undeniable signature in the style and sound that is truly "Angel Peña" - and that sound reflects his Philippine roots.

Though largely known in the music world as a classical AND jazz composer, Mr. Peña also ventured into writing Kundimans and Art Songs.  Students of voice in the Philippines may recall singing "Iyo Kailan Pa Man" as a recital requirement.  Mr. Peña composed this timeless kundiman in collaboration with the great lyricist Mr. Levi Celerio.  Mr. Peña also put music to some of his late brother Jose's poems thereby producing a series of art songs that truly are exquisite.

This website aims to make Mr. Peña's music accessible to everyone.  Mr. Peña's works are truly a treasure that must be passed on to future generations.  On this note, it is gratifying to know that Gerard Salonga has started along this path.
